Guy Motz, 79

Services were January 5 at United Methodist Church in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin for Guy Motz, 79 who died at his home in Balsam Lake Township on Tuesday, January 2, 1990. Rev. Ruth Egerer officiated. Interment of ashes was in Balsam Lake Cemetery.

Guy Motz was born September 16, 1910 in Mondamin, Iowa, the son of Stonewall Jackson and Mary Smith Motz. He graduated from Mondamin High School and went on to attend business school. While in Iowa, he played semi-pro baseball in Iowa and Nebraska.

He married Wilma Wulf, who was born and raised in Blair and graduated from Blair High School in 1937, in Missouri Valley, Iowa on December 20, 1939. They had three children.

They farmed in Iowa until 1944 when they moved to Balsam Lake Township in Polk County. He farmed there until retiring in 1975.

He served on the Goose Lake School Board and was involved in the Unity consolidation. He was a member of the farm Bureau and served as its president.

He belonged to the Republican Party and was a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. for dairy bills. He was also a member of the County ASC Committee, the Polk County Sportsman’s Club and a church board member of the United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fredrick and Robert; and a son, Robert.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma of Balsam Lake, a son, George of Balsam Lake; a daughter, Mary Merrill of Marshfield; a sister, Linnie Radtke of Wright, Minnesota; four grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Williamson Funeral Home of Amery was in charge of arrangements.
