Jane L. Nelson, 78

Jane L. Nelson, 78, died May 10, 2001, in Omaha, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were May 12 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Omaha.

Jane Lucille (Wilcox) Nelson was born Jan. 21, 1923 in Blair to Harley F. and Eva J. (MacDonald) Nelson. She was raised on the farm, and was educated at Fort Calhoun.

She was employed as a dental assistant and technician. She also worked at Immanual Hospital in Omaha, where she met Stanley Nelson. The couple were married on April 12, 1945.

Mrs. Nelson dedicated her life to raising her children and giving support to her husband. Following the death of her beloved husband in 1982, she continued to dedicate her life to her family, enjoying the giving of love to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There are many stories of her love and dedication as a family mom, including her prayer that she might be the one to get cancer, instead of her son, David.

She is survived by her son, Rodney Nelson, son and daughter-in-law, David and Patty Nelson, and a daughter, Marsha Schmid, all of Omaha, brothers and sister-in-law, Duane “Harlo” and Betty Wilcox of Kennard and Alan Wilcox of Omaha, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, brothers, James Wilcox and Lyle Wilcox, and a grandson, Makon Pablonis.

Memorials are suggested to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Association.

Jane Nelson was born in Kennard, Nebraska on January 21, 1923 to Harley F. and Eva J. (McDonald) Nelson. Jane was raised on the farm and was educated at Fort Calhoun.

Jane worked as a Dental Assistant and Technician. She also worked at Immanuel Hospital where she met Stanley Nelson. Jane and Stanley were married on April 12, 1945. To this union, God blessed 3 children: Rodney, David and Marsha.

Jane dedicated her life to raising her children and giving support to her husband. In 1982, Jane lost her beloved Stanley. She continued to dedicate her life to her family, enjoying the giving of love to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There are many stories of her love and dedication of love as a family mom. She was always there for her grandchildren. Even her prayer for her son David was that she might be the one to receive cancer instead of her son.

After struggling with her health, Jane died on Thursday, May 10, 2001. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Stanley, brothers James Wilcox and Lyle Wilcox, and a grandson Makon Pablonis.

Jane leaves to mourn her passing her children Rodney Nelson, David Nelson, and Marsha Schmidt, brothers Duane and Alan Wilcox, six grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
