Kathleen Barry, 83

Former Blair resident Kathleen “LaVonne” Barry died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Infinia Healthcare of Omaha in Omaha.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine, Iowa. Interment will be in the Woodbine Cemetery.

Kathleen “LaVonne” (Gilbert) Barry was born Aug. 29, 1921, in Lyons to Ira and Mary Leona (Wilson) Gilbert.

She graduated from Woodbine Normal High School and was married in 1940 to Robert L. Barry. The couple lived in rural Harrison County, Iowa, until their retirement. The Barry’s moved to Blair in 1973. In the early l990s, they moved to Omaha.

Mrs. Barry enjoyed gardening, cooking and playing cards. She also enjoyed listening to music and playing the piano. In the mornings she would play revelry to wake her children.

She is survived by her three children, Bob Barry of Denver, Colo., Don Barry of Elkhorn, and Cheryl Foster of Kalamazoo, Mich.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 1996; two brothers, Oscar and Cecil Gilbert; and two sisters, Leone Biddle and Irene McCune.
