Edith Barry Dies in Blair December 31

Services were held Wednesday, January 4, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church for Edith Barry, who died at the Blair Hospital December 31, 1977 at the age of 77. Father Galas officiated at the services. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Blair.

A Rosary was said at Bendorf Funeral Home on January 3.

Edith Barry, a daughter of Julius and Mary Mueller, was born July 26, 1899 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Her family moved to Blair while she was still young and she attended school in Blair. She married John L. Barry, in Blair, September 28, 1921 and the couple lived on a farm in Washington County until 1938 when they moved to Blair.

She worked at Blair Hospital as a practical nurse form 1938 until the late 1960’s. She was an active member of the Memorial Community Hospital Auxiliary, a past president of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, a long-time member of the McCarthy Extension Club, and an active worker at St. Francis Borgia Church of which she was a member.

One son, John J. (Jack) Barry, and her husband John L. Barry preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, Robert M. Barry, Denver, Colorado and two daughters, Mary K. Martin and Margaret (Mrs. Rollin) Gillen, both of Rosalie, Illinois. One sister, Helen Fabrenkrog, Scottsdale, Arizona, and one brother, Fred Mueller, Kearney; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive her.

Pallbearers for the services were Bob Macholan, Frank Dribal, John Andreasen, Sr., Frank Cope, Jack Varley, and Henry Bergschneider.

Bendorf Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for the services.
