LILY TIETGEN, 90

Lily M. Tietgen, 90, of Arlington died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke, S. D. Rev. Keith Petersen of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Herrick, will officiate. Burial will be in the Herrick Cemetery at Herrick, S. D.

Mrs. Tietgen was born Feb. 29, 1908, at Herrick, S. D. to William and Bertha (Kannenberg) Klug. She grew up at Herrick and graduated from Herrick High School. She then taught elementary school and attended Springfield State Teachers College in Springfield, S. D., for two years, during summer sessions.

After her marriage to Albert Tietgen on Oct. 10, 1930, at Gregory, S. D., she lived at Burke, S. D. for two years and continued to teach until 1937. She and her husband owned and operated a service station and tank wagon service at Herrick from 1937 to 1972. She resumed her teaching career in the early 1960s at Herrrick and Burke for several years. She moved to Arlington in 1986.

She was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran church in Fremont and of the Arlington Multi Purpose Senior Center at Arlington.

Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Norma Jean and Wallace Thompson of Arlington; a brother, Sherman Klug of St. Charles, S. D.; four grandchildren and their spouses, Scott and Ellen Thompson, Steve and Rhonda Thompson, Julie and Mike French, all of Arlington; and Kelly and Jodi Thompson of Fremont; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 14, 1989; a brother, Willis Klug; a sister, Rose Paulsen and two step-sisters, Olida Sieh and Veran Buald.

Pallbearers will be Wallace Thompson, Scott Thompson, Kelly Thompson, Steve Thompson, Mike French and Lance French.

Memorials may be given to the Arlington Multi-Purpose Senior Center, Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church or St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington is in charge of arrangements.
