Louis C Farnberg, Former County Clerk, Died July 12th

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 15th at the Bendorf Funeral Home for Mr. Louis Clarence Farnberg who died on July 12th at the Blair Community Hospital. The Rev. James Warn officiated at the 2 o’clock service. Tom and Ruth Blanchard furnished the music.

Complete military services were held at the graveside in the Blair Cemetery with the Blair Firing Squad in charge with the traditional “Taps” on the bugle. Mr. Farnberg was a member of the Blair Firing Squad.

Pallbearers were Herb Kolterman, Ernest Schmidt, Nick Steffen, Wayne Lambertz, Martin Kuhr, Sr., and Leslie French. Honorary pallbearers were John Sutton, Neil McMillan and Harvey Heinzerling.

He was born September 3, 1893 to Lauritz and Karen Johannsen Farnberg. He graduated from Blair High School in 1912. Being interested in sports, he was a pitcher for baseball teams, played basketball and played football on the Army team. He was a veteran of World War I.

He was a timekeeper on the railroad and W.P.A. and for many years he was in partnership with his father, L. A. Farnberg and brother, William, in the Farnberg Hardware in Blair.

On August 19, 1929 he was married to Mary Robertson of Blair, a Washington County school teacher. They were the parents of a daughter, Mary Lou, now Mrs. Al Sherman of Long Island, New York.

For sixteen years he served as Washington County Clerk. In 1959 he retired and he and Mrs. Farnberg went to Long Island, New York to make their home. They returned to Blair in 1969 and resided in the Sutton Apartments.

Survivors besides his wife and daughter are a grandson, Adam, a sister, Clara Farnberg of Sac City, Iowa, a brother, William, of Blair and one niece and three nephews.
