A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Dugan Funeral Chapel in Fremont with Chaplain Scott Jensen officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Dugan Funeral Chapel.

Shirley was born March 22, 1938, in Fremont to Alfred and Deloris (Brown) Peterson.

She grew up in Fremont and graduated from Fremont High in 1956.

She went to work at the former Campbell Soup plant, where she met her future husband, Sam DeNoyer. They were married on November 10, 1956, at the First Lutheran Church in Fremont. After working two years at Campbell Soup, she quit to be a stay-at-home mother and care for her three children.

She was a member of the St. James’ Episcopal Church. She was a member of the USBC and was an avid bowler, bowling in two leagues.

Dancing on Saturday nights at the Eagles Club, spending weekends at the Wegner Cabin on the Platte River for catfish fries, playing cards, and horseshoes were her most enjoyable activities. She also helped in the planning of her school class reunions.

In 1996, Shirley had a single mastectomy due to breast cancer. She remained cancer free.

She is survived by her husband, Sam; her three children: son Greg of Omaha and daughters Teresa of Fremont and Darla (Rick) Wulf of Arlington; one brother Robert (Veronica) Peterson; and two sisters: Bonnie Rotert and Annette Phillips. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gene Peterson; and a sister, Kim Bohanan. The family requests memorials be directed to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
