TIMMINS - - Lois Fahs, age 92, died Fri., 12/8/06 at Memorial community Hospital, Blair while in hospice care. A prolific author, she wrote a college text, “Understanding Through Communication” and a series of lectures and a book, “Finding Words for Your Feelings.” She lived much of her adult life in Dallas, TX where she worked for Timberlawn Psychiatric Hospital and after retirement was active in the AARP Tax Aide Program. She continued her volunteer work when she moved to Omaha in 2004 to be near her daughters. She is survived by daughters, Nancy Kirk, Omaha; Kathy Timmins, Blair; grandchildren, Benjamin Daniel Kirk and Jessica Lynn Kirk; nieces, Brenda Bcke and Barbara Charles. At the time of her death she was a resident of Brighton Gardens, Omaha.

Memorials suggested to the Memorial Community Hospital Auxiliary, Blair, NE. Memorial services to be held at a later date.

DR. LOIS TIMMINS, 92

Dr. Lois Timmins, 92, of Omaha, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at Memorial Community Hospital while in hospice care.

Plans for a memorial service are pending through John A. Gentleman Mortuaries.

Dr. Timmins was a prolific author, writing the college text, “Understanding Through Communication,” and a series of lectures and a book, “Finding Words For Your Feelings.”

She lived much of her adult life in Dallas, Texas, where she worked for the Timberlawn Psychiatric Hospital and after retirement, was active in the AARP Tax Aide program. She continued her volunteer work when she moved to Omaha in 2004 to be near her daughters. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Brighton Gardens of Omaha.

She is survived by daughters Kathy Timmins of Blair and Nancy Kirk of Omaha; three grandchildren; and two nieces.

Memorials are suggested to the MCH Auxiliary in Blair.

Lois Timmins helped psychiatric patients overcome problems through games and recreation.

She wrote a college textbook on recreational therapy, and a book and series of lectures on “Finding Words for Your Feelings.” Even into her 90s, Timmins lectured and conducted workshops on the topic of feelings.

Timmins died Friday at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Neb., after suffering from a severe infection, said daughter Nancy Kirk of Omaha. Timmins was 92.

She was born and raised in New York and spent much of her adult life in Texas. She moved to Omaha in 1994 to be closer to Kirk and her other daughter, Kathy Timmins of Blair.

Lois Timmins received a doctorate in education with an emphasis on recreation from Columbia University in 1941 after receiving master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Northwestern University in Chicago.

She worked in Timberlawn Psychiatric Hospital in Dallas for 22 years. After retirement, Timmins helped start a tax aid program for the poor through the AARP. She also helped develop an anti-racism program for the Southwestern Unitarian Universalist Conference of churches and wrote a regular column on combating racism for the conference’s newsletter.

Survivors include her daughters and two grandchildren. A memorial service is pending.
