David Z. Mummert Died Suddenly At His Home

Lifetime Native Of This Area Devoted Life To Investments

David Z. Mummert, life-long Blair resident and former Blair business man, died suddenly at his home at 1517 South Street early Sunday. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Mr. Mummert was born at Blair January 4th, 1904 and was 65 years of age at the time of his death. He had been born in the house which was his home at the time of his death. His father, the late D.Z. Mummert, was a lawyer but he devoted most of his work and interests to investments.

“Dave,” as he was known by all of his friends, attended the Blair Schools and was a graduate of Blair High School. He graduated from Creighton University in 1927. For a number of years following his graduation he devoted his time to the investment business which his father had established. A number of years ago he purchased Young’s Café, at the corner of Seventeenth and Washington Streets which he operated successfully. Several years ago he sold the business to Dave Wulf who re-named it “Colonial Corner.”

He was a staunch member of the first Methodist Church and served as its treasurer for twenty-five years.

His first marriage was to Lorraine Seltz and to that marriage two daughters were born. They are Mrs. Roger Bottolfson (Mary) of San Jose, California and Mrs. Richard Muchemore (Ruth) of Omaha. The daughters have six children.

Later he was married to Mrs. Gwen Chase, who survives him. By this marriage there are six step-children.

Since retiring from the restaurant business he has devoted his time to his financial business and serving as financial advisor to a number of friends about the city.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at First Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Atherton conducted the service and former pastor of the church, Rev. Melvon Ireland, delivered the funeral sermon. Burial under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary was made in the Blair Cemetery. Pallbearers were Louis Murdoch, Jack Varley, Dr. G. A. Kuether, Wayne Anderson, H. Lyle Guyer and Neil Sutton.
