Ed Mundorf, 86, Died At Blair Hospital Friday

Ed Mundorf, lifelong Washington County resident and for many years a Blair business man died last Friday, March 25th at the Blair Memorial Hospital. He was 86 years of age, having been born March 9, 1891 at Herman.

Ed was a member of a pioneer Washington County family which had been interested in farming and farm-connected activities.

Many years ago, the date is not certain, Ed went into the Produce business in Blair. Most of the years he operated in a small frame building on Lincoln Street just west of the present location of the Blair Telephone Company building. Produce stations were as commonplace as filling stations are now as most every farmer raised chickens and kept cows and, therefore had eggs and cream to sell. The produce business consisted of buying and testing cream, buying and candling eggs, purchasing poultry and in some cases, hides.

Times have changed and farm operators no longer bring a few dozen eggs to town to get enough money for their week’s groceries. Poultry and eggs and the dairy business is now, either a big-time business, or something which many farmers have dropped from their activities.

The Mundorf Cream and Poultry station was the last to operate in Blair. It held out longer than any of the others.

The deceased is survived by his wife and by a son and three daughters. Mrs. Mundorf, the former Ellen Greenfield, survives her husband. A son, Russell Mundorf, lives in Lincoln, Nebr. The daughters are Mrs. Perk (Velma) Bohs, of Blair; Mrs. Bryan (Iris) Johnson and Mrs. Jim (Mary) Louden.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 28th with the Rev. James Metzgar officiating. Burial, under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary, was made in the Blair Cemetery.
