DOROTHY L. TRANMER, 87

Washington county native Dorothy L. Tranmer, age 87, of Logan Valley Manor in Lyons died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at the Oakland Memorial Hospital in Oakland after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons. Interment will be in the Lyons Cemetery. Visitation began Monday, and continues Tuesday, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Piper Funeral Home in Lyons.

Dorothy Lucille Kinning Tranmer was born July 8, 1917, near Herman, to Jessie Lee and Anna (Nielsen) Davis. She attended rural schools near Herman.

She married Arlis H. Kinning on May 1, 1937, in Sioux City, Iowa. They spent their married lives in Rosalie and the surrounding area. The couple had six children.

She was a long-time member of the Rosalie Methodist Church and the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons. She was most recently a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons.

After her first husband’s death in 1986, she married John Tranmer in Lyons on Jan. 22, 1989. The couple lived in Lyons, moving to the Logan Valley Manor in May of 2002.

She was known as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will always be remembered for her love of her family and for her wonderful meals and treats.

Mrs. Tranmer is survived by her husband, John; four sons, two daughters and their spouses: Arlis “Bud” Kinning, Jr. and his wife, Charlene of Pender; Ron and Georgia Kinning of Arvada, Colo.; Don and LaDora Kinning of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Diane and Larry Ahlers of Rosalie; Norma and Boyd Hightree of Bancroft; and Bob Kinning of Centennial, Colo. She is also survived by her stepchildren and their spouses: Kathy and Jim Gustin of Dakota City; Cheryl Swanda and friend, Ron Roscoe of Fremont; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Madeline Carlson, Maxine Shotwell and Nina Phalen, all of Blair, and Annabelle Cook of Kennard; two brothers, Jesse Davis of Shippenburg, Penn. and Howard Davis of Fort Meyers, Fla.; one step-daughter-in-law, Neva Tranmer of Lyons; as well as many more relatives and friends.

In addition to her first husband, Arlis, Mrs. Tranmer was preceded in death by one grandson, her step-son, Gary Tranmer, and two brothers, Chuck and Allen Davis.
