Mrs. John G. Jenson, 79, and a former resident of the Blair vicinity, died March 5th in California.

Mr. and Mrs. Jenson lived on the bottom north of Blair where they farmed for a number of years. She will be remembered by many for she was very active in Extension work and held an active interest in school affairs.

The following obituary has been contributed by her son, Alan.

Clara Elizabeth Jenson was born January 23, 1890 and died March 5, 1969 at Hillhaven Convalescent Hospital Mountain View, Calif. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 8, 1969. She was buried beside her husband in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, Calif.

As Clara Sims, she was born on a homestead near Alpena, South Dakota. At the age of 6, the family moved to Western, Nebraska, Saline County. Here, she grew up and graduated from Western High School in 1907. She taught school for a number of years in that area. On July 31, 1918, she was united in marriage to John G. Jenson. To this union one son, Alan of Sunnyvale, Calif. and one daughter were born. After farming in Jefferson and Saline counties, she and her husband moved to Washington County. Besides her son, Alan, she leaves her daughter-in-law, Lorraine and three grandchildren Susan, Margaret and John. Her only sister, Mrs. Dora Hunt lives at York, Nebraska.

After the death of her husband, she developed a small business weaving cane chair seats and working with furniture. Her greatest enjoyment was meeting the people that this business brought to her acquaintance.

As a member of the Women’s Home Extension Service in Washington County, she took great pride in working with other people as a Home Demonstration Leader. Elected County President of the Washington County Extension Clubs, she worked diligently to set up women’s clubs all over the county. She was also for a number of years a rural correspondent for the Enterprise of Blair, Nebraska.

Her life extended from the age of homesteads, woodburning, locomotives and even Indian scares to the age of space travel. She enjoyed every minute of it.
