OLDEST EXHIBITOR AT STATE AND COUNTY FAIRS

Velma A. Jeppesen, 99, of Blair, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair with burial in the Blair Cemetery.

Velma Ruwe was born Feb. 22, 1911, in rural Washington County to Otto and Anna (Lallman) Ruwe. She attended Summer Grade School and graduated from Blair High School.

On Feb. 23, 1933, she married Milo L. Jeppesen in Blair. They farmed west of Kennard and moved into Blair in 1948.

Mrs. Jeppesen spent many years doing interior decorating in homes throughout the area.

She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School for several years, was a member of the Ladies Aide and wrote the old history of the church for their Centennial Celebration.

She was an active participant in both the Washington County and State Fairs, where she won several ribbons for her exhibits in clothing and flowers.

She was the oldest exhibitor at the State Fair in 2009 and oldest exhibitor at the Washington County Fair in 2009 and 2010.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Milo V and Marian Jeppesen of Decatur; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Robert Beck of Louisville; seven grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milo L.; two grandchildren, Robert and Rodney Beck; sister, Dorothy Ruwe; and brother Raymond Ruwe.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church.
