Henry Wrich, Long Time Resident, Dies

Was Once County Commissioner From District 1 From 1900 to 1904

Henry Wrich, well known Blair man and long-time resident of Washington county, died suddenly at the Blair Hospital last Monday morning after an illness of but a few hours duration.

Mr. Wrich had been a resident of this county for the past seventy years, having come here with his parents from Holstein, Germany at the age of 5 years. The deceased was born in Holstein on May 9th, 1863, he being at the time of his death, 75 years, 8 months of age.

Upon coning to this country, his parents first settled at Fort Calhoun, moving to a farm south of Kennard in 1871 which has since been in the Wrich family continuously.

In the Richland township, Mr. Wrich grew to manhood and later took over the farming interests of his parents. Proving successful at this, he took an active part in county politics, during the years shortly after 1900. He served as county commissioner of Washington county from 1900 to 1904.

On December 12th, 1890 he was married, at Blair, to Miss Catherine Lohse, of the Orum vicinity. The young couple took up farming on the old home place where they raised a family of three children, all of whom survive them. They are: Charles Wrich; who now resides on the original Wrich farm south of Kennard, Harry Wrich, who lives on an adjoining farm to the home place, and Miss Hilda Wrich, who has lived in Blair which her parents. Mrs. Wrich also survives.

Two brothers, Chris Wrich and Hans Wrich also survive; Chris Wrich living on West Grant street and Hans Wrich on West Washington street in Blair.

Mr. and Mrs. Wrich moved to Blair fifteen years ago and have lived since that time at Second and Front streets.

Funeral services are to be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Blair Methodist church with Rev. Ralph P. Rasmussen in charge. Interment will be made at the German cemetery in the south part of Washington county.
