Services Held for Father of Mrs. Ed Jipp

The father of Mrs. Edwin Jipp, Jr, of Blair, Gilbert Baker, died at the age of 83 on May 10th at the Valley County Hospital. Mr. Baker was a rancher near Ericson, Nebraska.

Gilbert Sidney Baker was born August 11, 1894 on a farm near North Loup, Nebraska.

Gilbert spent his childhood with his family in the North Loup area and at the age of 11 moved to Ericson to live with his widowed grandmother. When he was 17, he began farming and ranching in Wheeler County on his own.

On June 18, 1926 he was united in marriage to Adala Peterson at her home near Pible Lake. They made their home on the ranch near Erickson for the next 48 years.

Surviving Mr. Baker are his wife Adala; two daughters, Shirley Jipp, Blair Nebraska, Corinne Howe, Kearney, Nebraska; two sons, Dr. George Baker, Ord; Stuart Baker, Erickson Nebraska, eleven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; sisters Edna Sohl, Hastings, Nebraska, Inez Skadden, Stockton, California, Ruth Lockhart, Truth and Consequences, New Mexico, and Irene Baker, Santa Clara, California; one brother, Raymond Baker, Oakland, Nebraska, and nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters, two brothers and one granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Saturday, 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church.
