Mary “Loretta” Bard, 73

Former Blair resident, Mary “Loretta” Bard, 73, of Logan, Kan., died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at Sun Health Hospice in Sun City, Ariz.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 8, at Logan Christian Church in Logan. Interment was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Logan.

Mary L. Bard was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Densmore, Kan., to William R. and Mary E. (Atkinson) Veh. She graduated from Norton Community High School, then attended Kansas State University and Brown Mackie Business School.

In 1954, she married James D. Callahan of Omaha. She started working at Dana College, and the family later moved to Blair.

While in Blair, she was involved with many organizations, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.

She worked for the HunTel Telephone Company for a number of years.

Then, on Feb. 27, 1982, she married Jack L. Bard of Logan, and moved to Logan.

She worked for Hahn and Hahn Law Offices in Phillipsburg, Kan., until she retired.

For the last l2 years, she and her husband made their home in Surprise, Ariz., during the winter.

Mrs. Bard was an avid sewer, enjoyed knitting, filling in at the law office, traveling and volunteering.

She is survived by her husband, Jack, of Logan; daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Michael Dunham of Blair, and Susan and Bennett Taylor of Fontane, Illinois; three grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Myron Veh of Norton, Kan., and John and Sandra Veh of Hill City, Kan.; nieces and a nephew; and many friends.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to the donor’s choice.
