Charlotte A. Stricklett, 93, of Blair, died Monday, May 10, 2010, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Friday, May 14, at the funeral home.

Charlotte Ann Baker was born July 18, 1916, in Bennington to Oscar and Christina (Kisling) Baker. The family moved several times for her father’s job with the railroad, including to East Y, Iowa; Blair; and Cedar Bluffs. In 1927, they made their last move and moved back to Blair.

She graduated from Blair High School in 1934. On July 2, 1941, she married Guy R. Stricklett in Blair. They lived in Omaha for a short time and spent the remainder of their married life in Blair.

Mrs. Stricklett was a homemaker. She was devoted to her family and truly believed that “a man’s home is his castle.” Supper was always put on the table as her husband walked in the door from work.

She loved children and spent many wonderful hours playing and reading to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made many sacrifices for her family, going without so they would have what they needed. She wanted to do all she could for them.

One of her favorite holidays was Christmas and she always made sure the home was beautifully decorated and there were things her children longed for under the tree. Birthdays were another time she made her family fell special. She started a tradition of calling each child, grandchild, great-grandchild and great-great-grandchild, as well as their spouses, on their birthdays.

She was raised in a loving family, and the ties with her siblings were deep.

Her friends were treasures to her and she enjoyed all they shared.

In November of 2000, she moved from her home of 53 years to Crowell Memorial Home. She made many friends among the residents and staff.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Don Magill of Tekamah and Nancy and Joe Galaway of Fairmont; seven grandchildren, Cheryl and John Kelly of Deloit, Iowa, Dan and Terese Magill of Decatur, Randy and Linda Magill of Fort Calhoun, Lorraine Magill of Mondamin, Iowa, Shelly and Dave Cassidy of Fairmont, and Ken and Linda Berggren of Unityville, Penn.; 13 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy, in November 1975; four brothers, Otto, Alfred, Arthur, and Alvin Baker; two sisters, Ledocia Baker and Margaret Stolley; granddaughter, Susan Berggren; and son-in-law, Charles Berggren.

The family moved a few times before settling in Blair, due to her father’s job in railroading. When Charlotte was around three years old they moved to East Y, Iowa where the family had previously lived. When Charlotte was eight years old and in the third grade, they moved to Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska. The family returned to East Y when Charlotte was ten years old. She started the fifth grade there in the fall of 1926. In June of 1927, the family made their last move, and settled in Blair, Nebraska. Their first home was a section house next to the railroad tracks on 12th Street between State and Washington Streets.

Charlotte graduated from Blair High School in 1934. She married Guy R. Stricklett on July 2, 1941 in Blair. They lived in Omaha for a short time, and spent the remainder of their married lives in Blair. Guy passed away on November 16, 1975.

Charlotte loved dogs, and gave many dogs a loving home over her lifetime. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, and word puzzles until she lost her eyesight. She still spent many hours listening to talking books.

Her friends were treasures to her, and she enjoyed all they shared together.

It’s time to say goodbye my love.
I would love to stay with you longer,
But something greater calls me on.
I’ve had such a wonderful life here.
Yes, there were some rough times,
But they gave me such love and happiness.
We shared so many unforgettable times
Each moment a treasure to take with me,
And a comfort for you to hold on to.
I look forward to the next part of my journey,
For there are many I long to see once more.

The one thing death cannot rob you of,
Is my deep and continuous love for you.
When you feel the breeze touch your cheek,
You’ll be enveloped and embraced by my love.
