Ernest Barglof

Funeral services for Ernest Ray Barglof were held at the Hadan-Golden Mortuary with Dr. Norman Schroeder officiating on February 24, 1986.

Interment was in Liberty Cemetery at Greenville, Iowa. Casket bearers were members of the Bennington Volunteer Fire Department. Miriam Sukraw was organist and Joyce Johnson sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Just a Closer Walk With Thee.”

Mr. Barglof, son of Ernie Emil and Myrtle (Lykins) Barglof, was born November 19, 1934 at Clay County, Iowa. He attended the Greenville-Rossie High School.

He spent ten years in the Iowa National Guard. From 1957-59 he was with the United States Army at Fort Hood, Texas.

In 1964 he came to Bennington. While here he continued his life’s work as an electrician. He was a member of the Bennington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department for ten years and completed the EMT classes. He did a tremendous amount of electrical work in the construction of the new Bennington fire barn.

He was baptized in Grace Methodist Church, Spencer, Iowa. He confirmed his faith and became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church November 9, 1969.

In 1979 he took up residence in Omaha and later moved to Lincoln where he was employed with Quantum Electric Company.

He suffered a severe heart attack which resulted in surgery and a restricted way of life.

He died February 20, 1986 in Chula Vista, California at the age of 51 years, three months and one day. He was preceded in death by his parents.

His survivors include former wife, Vonnie; two sons, Dennis and Jeff Barglof in the United States Navy; two brothers, Jim and Art Barglof of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; one sister, Joyce Schuller of Alta, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
