Miller Munk, 87, Died At Hospital Early Saturday

Miller Munk, well known retired Blair business man, died at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair early Saturday. He had been in failing health for a number of weeks. Mr. Munk was 87 years old.

Miller Munk will be remembered by local residents as the operator of a machine shop and blacksmith shop of State Street in the north part of Blair’s business district. He started the business many years ago when horse shoeing was the principal occupation of that type of business. He developed a flourishing business in horseshoeing and when the horse was in its prime on local farms there was always one or more teams tied to the hitching posts in from of his shop waiting to be shod.

He was an expert at his trade.

In later years, as machinery came to the farm, he changed with the times and added to his building and installed equipment to repair farm machinery. His ability was rewarded by the hundreds of customers he had all over the county.

Miller possessed a pleasing personality and unlike many of his calling, he kept a tidy and well-run shop.

He is survived by his wife, Emma and by his son, Leonard, who lives in northeast Blair. There are three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

Services for Miller Munk will be Monday at 2 o’clock at the First Lutheran Church. Rev. Robert Albers will officiate. Burial will be at the Blair Cemetery.
