Melvin Jerry Murphy, 67, died on July 25, 2000, in Stockton, Calif., following a long illness.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. at the Decatur, Neb., cemetery, and at 1 p.m. at the Blair Cemetery on Aug. 18, 2000.

Melvin J. Murphy was born on Dec. 13, 1932, to Dow and Edith Murphy in Omaha. He attended school in Macy until the third grade, and then the family moved to Blair.

He graduated from Blair High School on May 20, 1952, and then was joined the Navy on June 6, 1952. He was in the Navy for 22 years.

He is survived by his wife, Amy, and daughter and son-in-law, Joann and Phil Ma, all of Stockton, daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and John Tull of Blair; sons, James and Dow Eugene Murphy, also of Stockton; a brother, Fred E. Murphy of Thornton, Colo., and a sister and brother-in-law, Della and Robert Miller, also of Blair; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Donna Miller and Melberta French.
