Gerald E. Christensen, 68, of North Platte died Thursday, April 19, 2007, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

Services were Sunday, April 22, at the First United Methodist Church in North Platte.

Gerald E. “G.E.” Christensen was born April 17, 1939, in Grand Island to Emil and Thelma (Gillham) Christensen.

He graduated from Grand Island High School in 1959.

In August 1959, he married Sondra Stalnaker in Grand Island. The couple had four children.

He hired out on the Union Pacific Railroad in 1966 as a brakeman. In 1971, he transferred to North Platte.

On Feb. 3, 1983, he married Terrie Romans in Cheyenne, Who. The couple had one daughter.

Mr. Christensen retired from the railroad in June of 1999. He loved Nebraska football, fishing, boating, classic country music, vintage cars, bird watching, the weather channel, and enjoyed life with his friends. He was a member of the Moose, Eagles, and the local UTU No. 286.

Survivors include his wife, Terri of North Platte; four daughter and sons-in-law, Pamela and Mark Seefus of Blair, Denise and Jim Erwin of Parker Colo., Lisa Christensen and Steven Spies of Lincoln and Kristin Christensen and Vince Johnson of North Platte; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Lori Christensen of North Platte; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Dick Edwards of San Francisco, Calif., and Lavonne and Donald Knuth of Grand Island; two brothers and a sister-in-law, James and Alta Christensen of Phillips and Dennis Christensen of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy and Dixie; and a brother, Robert.

A memorial has been established in his name.
