Mrs. T. S. Myers, mother of Superintendent W. H. Myers, of the city schools, died rather suddenly at an early hour last Saturday morning of heart failure. She hadn’t been well for years, but had been confined to the house only since Christmas. She had had several attacks of heart trouble, with difficult breathing, but thought it was from her wakened condition. She seemed bright and cheerful Friday morning and chatted with a caller in the afternoon, getting up afterwards and sat in her chair for a time. In the evening she seemed t be failing fast the tired heart finally ceasing to beat at 2:30. She was conscious u to almost the last moment, saying a short time before death came, “Well, this is the end.” She had no fear, made no complaint, for she was ready to go. The funeral was held at the home of her only son, where she had been living since her husband died about two years ago. Her former pastor and friend of the family, Rev. Chas. P. Lang, came from Tilden, Neb., to conduct the service, and was assisted by the local pastor of the Methodist church, Rev. J. W. Lewis. Mary McDaniels was born in Crawfordsville, Ind., Sept. 6th, 1841, and was therefore 73 years old last September. When a young woman she went to Bedford, Ia. and taught in the Iowa public schools for 25 years. She was married to T. S. Myers at Bedford and soon thereafter they moved to Ponca, Neb., where she taught for 14 years, the last three in an adjoining room to her son, the present city superintendent. She was ever active in church work, the W.C.T.U. and the W.R.C. and took a deep interest in public affairs. They moved from Ponca here about three years ago, Mr. Myers living here but about a year when death came to him. He was buried in the Blair cemetery and she now lies by his side. She was third in a family of ten children, seven of whom survive her. Her oldest brother, Frank McDaniels, of Winterset, Ia., was the only one able to be here for the funeral services. He is 81 years of age and is still very active. Having been a teacher for 39 years she gave much of her life for others, which is the highest form of service, and in that service she won the highest crown of life, the mastery of self, character.
