Richard Leroy Farrens, 74

Richard L. Farrens, age 74, of Wasilla, Alaska, and formerly of Decatur, died in Chugiak, Alaska, on Monday, July 3, 1989, after a lengthy illness.

“Dick” was born on December 25, 1914, near Tekamah to Ralph and Elizabeth (Matheny) Farrens. He married June Ann Baker on October 17, 1936. Mrs. Farrens preceded him in death on March 17, 1956.

While a resident of Decatur, Dick did carpentry work and owned and operated Dick’s Mobil (later Dick’s Champlin) in Decatur. After moving to Alaska in 1965, he owned and operated Spring Creek Lodge at Chugiak from 1967 to 1969. Woodworking was always a lifelong interest to Dick.

Survivors include one son, Daryl R. Farrens; and one daughter Dixie Waddel, both of Chugiak, Alaska; two grandchildren; Emily Ann and Michael Murphy Farrens; one sister, Nina Phillipps of Northridge, California; one brother, Arthur Farrens of Oroville, California; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Funeral services wee July 11, at the Decatur United Methodist Church with Rev. Marion H. Knoell officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery at Decatur.
