Graveside services were Tuesday, January 16 at the Herman Cemetery in Herman for Hazel E. Trotter, 92 of Fremont, and formerly of Blair and Herman who died January 11, 1996 at A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont. Shirley Ann Schmidt, pastor of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Blair officiated.

Hazel E. Trotter was born March 16, 1903 at Blair. She graduated from Osmond High School in Osmond, Nebraska and attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska.

In 1925, she moved to Pierce County, Nebraska and lived there until 1931 when she moved to Wayne County, Illinois where she farmed. In 1942, she moved to Herman and lived there for many years before moving to Blair. She resided in Blair for eight years before moving to Fremont in 1986.

She worked for the Herman Telephone Company for 15 years before retiring. She was also a teacher.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 854 Auxiliary in Fremont. She was also a member of the Methodist Church.

She married Grover Trotter in Yankton, South Dakota February 28, 1925. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1974.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Nellie Coulter Fairchild; a son, Eldon Trotter; a grandson, Sam Richards; a brother, Guy Fairchild and a sister, Alma Fletcher.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Betty Trotter of Herman; Roy and Janice Trotter of Lincoln, Missouri; Marvin and Fannie Trotter of Omaha; Guy and Colette Trotter of Fremont and Alicia Trotter of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen and Herman Karlin and Alma and Robert Jensen, all of Fremont and Caltha Richards of Columbus, Nebraska; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the Herman Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.

Rozanek and Son Colonial Chapel in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
