Glen C. “Hungry” Farrens, 81

Glen C. “Hungry” Farrens, age 81, of Decatur, passed away early on Tuesday, July 11, 1989, at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha after a brief illness.

Hungry was born on January 2, 1908, at Decatur to Josephus and Ida Mae (Bare) Farrens. He lived in Decatur nearly all his life and married Honor Stillman on September 9, 1928, at Onawa, Iowa. Hungry farmed until the age of thirty-five, when he opened Hungry’s Bar in Decatur, which he operated for sixteen years. He ‘retired’ in 1965, after which he went to work for the Burt County Bridge Commission, where he worked on the Toll Bridge for fourteen years.

Survivors include his wife, Honor Farrens of Decatur; one son, Duane Farrens of Phoenix, Arizona; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Roy and Bryan, and one sister, Ethel Penny.

Services were Friday, July 14 at the Decatur City Hall Auditorium, Rev. Marion H. Knoell officiated. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery at Decatur.
