HENRY TRUHLSEN FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD MONDAY

Funeral services were held at the Herman Legion Hall last Monday, May 25th, for Henry Truhlsen, long time business man at Herman. He had died at Tekamah Senior Citizens Home Friday, May 22nd.

Mr. Truhlsen was born April 20, 1891 in the Rose Hill Community west of Blair. He was 79 years of age at the time of his death.

Mr. Truhlsen had received his education at Blair High School and had attended the Blair Commercial College which operated here for a time.

On November 26, 1919, he was married to Miss Lola Marshall of Lincoln and the couple became the parents of three children. Mrs. Truhlsen and the three children survive his passing. A son is Dr. Stanley M. Truhlsen of Omaha. There are two daughters, Mrs. Parke Holmes (Marion) of Greeley, Colorado and Mrs. Max E. Johns (Joan) of Charles City, Iowa. There are 11 grandchildren.

Mr. Truhlsen moved to Herman in 1911 at which time he entered the hardware and furniture business in partnership with his brother Chris. He had moved to Herman from Arlington where he had been employed in the Arlington State Bank. A year later he became a funeral director which work he carried on in conjunction with the Hardware and Furniture Store. He was also active in the Real Estate and Insurance business.

He served in the Navy during World War I.

Returning to Herman he became interested in many community things. He was a County Commissioner for four years from 1920 to 1924 and he was a member of the Herman village board for many years. He served two terms as chairman. He was also a member of the Herman School Board for a number of years and he belonged to the Lions Club and the Herman Commercial Club. He had been an Ambassador to Ak-Sar-Ben since 1932.

For 12 years he was Secretary-Treasurer of the Federal Land Bank for Washington County during which time he made over a million dollars in loans to hard-pressed farmers during the depression and drought years. He was also associated with the Production Credit for two years.

Mr. Truhlsen was a charter member of the Jackson-Peck American Legion Post No. 274. He was a member of the Post for 52 years and had served as Post Commander. He was also a charter member of World War Barracks 1996 and was also a member of the Forty et Eight.

In Masonry he was a member of Landmark Lodge of Herman since 1912 and had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star since 1913. He was also a member of Mackey Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Tekamah and Knights Templar Jordan Commandry of Blair.

At the funeral services held Monday, casket bearers were Alton Jensen, Harold Jensen, Roger Jensen, Harry Siert, Elmer Truhlsen, Kenneth Truhlsen and Lyle Truhlsen. All were nephews or great-nephews. Interment was made at Herman.
