Robert Edward Nelson, 82

Robert E. Nelson, age 82, of Lincoln and formerly of rural Tekamah, passed away on Monday evening, Nov. 7th, 1988 at the Homestead Nursing Home in Lincoln, where he had been a resident for the past two years.

He was born on Jan, 23rd, 1906 at Decatur, Nebraska to Andrew and Estella (Thomas) Nelson. The seventh of nine children, he attended District No. 35 Grade School in Burt County and Platte Valley Academy at Shelton, Nebraska, and graduated from Riverside High School in Burt County. He attended Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska for two years.

Mr. Nelson was united in marriage to Amy E. McKercher on March 2nd, 1942 at Omaha. Bob lived in Denver, Colorado for a period of time, during which he did roofing work for John Mansville for eight years. After returning to Burt County, Bob started in the Farming and Dairy Business north of Tekamah. The couple moved to Lincoln upon retiring. Bob was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lincoln.

Survivors include his wife, Amy E. Nelson of Lincoln, two sons: Robert K. Nelson and David L, Nelson, both of Lincoln; four grandchildren: Scott, Kimberly, Shannan and Clint Nelson, all of Lincoln; two brothers: Pat Nelson of Lafayette, Colorado and Roy Nelson of Citrus Heights, California; one sister, Bertha Bishop of Vallejo, California; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov, 10th, at the Hamel & Peck Funeral Home in Tekamah, with Elder Harry E. Curl and Lowell Welch officiating. Interment will be in Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery north of Tekamah.
