Allbery, Catherine Amy (Dolan) 11/20/1914

1) Printed in the Wednesday, November 25, 1914 Pilot, Blair, Nebraska

The end finally came for Mrs. Richard Allbery at about 9 o’clock last Friday evening, she having been bedfast for over four weeks and unconscious for several days. Mr. Allbery, their son, Will, of Chadron, and only daughter, Minnie, Mrs. C.P. Rodman, of Omaha, were present when the end came.

About nineteen years ago she fell and sustained injuries that made her an invalid the balance of her life, yet she was brave and cheerful through it all, doing her own housework most of the time.

Catherine Amy Dolan was born in Beverly, Washington county, Ohio, the same town in which the editor was born, Dec. 3, 1835, and was therefore almost 79 years old. On August 29th, 1858, she was united in marriage to Richard Allbery and of this union seven children were born, Denna, who lives in Denver, Will, of Chadron, Frank, of this city, and Minnie, Mrs. C.P. Rodman, of Omaha. Alice, Celia, (Mrs. Otis Eller) and Grant died of tuberculosis when about thirty years of age.

They came to Blair in the early 70’s and this has been their home ever since. Mrs. Allbery was a member of the Baptist church and the funeral was conducted at the house by Rev. Volck, pastor of that church, a 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon. In 1908 Mr. and Mrs. Allbery celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, about a hundred guests being present, and the event had been a very pleasant memory to both of them ever since.

Mrs. Will Allbery came down from Chadron and C.P. Rodman and son, Gerald, and daughter, Gertrude, from Omaha to attend the funeral. Also Mr. Allbery’s brother, Joe, and wife and daughter, Hattie; of Omaha, and Warren Eller, a grandson from Lincoln. Denna Allbery was here from Denver a few weeks ago to see his mother while she was still able to recognize and visit with him, but did not come for the funeral.

Mr. Allbery will make his home with Mrs. C.P. Rodman, in Omaha, as soon as the household goods are disposed of here.

MRS. RICHARD ALLBERRY

Catherine Amy Dolan was born in Beverly, Washington county, Ohio, Dec. 3, 1835. On Aug. 29, 1856, in the same state she married Richard Allberry. A family of seven children were born in this union: Denna, William, Frank, Alice, Celia, Minnie and Grant. Three of these children, Alice, Celia and Grant passed out of this life prior to their mother’s death.

Mother Allberry answered the final summons and passed to the other world Friday evening, Nov. 20th, 1914, having almost completed her seventy-ninth year of this life. She had been a member of the Baptist church in Blair for about 25 years. It was about nineteen years ago she sustained a severe fall which accident disabled her permanently, but through all the years of her suffering she maintained a spirit of quiet, patient endurance. For several recent years, the hardening of the arteries has been regarded the more immediate cause of death. During the past four weeks she had been bedfast, and suffering such until death relieved her on the evening stated above. Her husband and their son Will and their only daughter, Minnie, were at her bedside until the end.

It was in the year 1908, the golden wedding anniversary was celebrated at the family home with about one hundred invited guests - - an event which has always since lingered sweetly in the memory of her companion who is now left to mourn her departure; but we trust she awaits the final reunion of her loved ones upon the golden shore beyond.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. F. E. Volek from the home Sunday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the Blair Cemetery.
