Irma L. Christensen, 84, of Blair, died Sunday May 23, 2004, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. Memorial services are planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home.

Irma Lorraine (Nelson) Christensen was born Sept. 22, 1919, on a farm in Washington County, north of Blair, to George and Emma Nelson.

She graduated from Blair High School in 1938 and attended Dana College before teaching in rural Washington County schools. In1940, she married Robert P. Christensen and moved to Blair, where she spent the remainder of her life.

After her marriage, she stayed at home to raise their four children and support the household. In 1958, after the death of her husband, Mrs. Christensen went back to school at Dana, and again began teaching in one-room country schools. She taught until the rural schools were consolidated into the city schools. At that time, she semi-retired, and worked a variety of part-time jobs. Throughout her life, she was a wonderful and innovative cook, and enjoyed large Sunday dinners. Family and friends were always welcome at her home.

Irma was a long-time member of the First Lutheran Church of Blair, and enjoyed listening to the Sunday services at home.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Janice Christensen of Antioch, Tenn., and George and Joeta Christensen of Raymore, Mo.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Barbara and Mary, a brother, George “Dick” Nelson, and a sister, Marian Nelson.

Memorials and suggested to the Blair Rescue Squad.
