NATIVE OF SWEDEN HAD CALLED BLAIR HER HOME SINCE 1913

One of the few remaining nonagenarians in Washington County, 95-year-old Mrs. Johanna Christine Christensen died Sunday at her home in Blair. Funeral rites were conducted at 10 o’clock, Wednesday morning, August 9, at Bendorf Funeral Home, with burial in the Thone Cemetery.

A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, Johanna Carlson was born December 11, 1848. At the age of 12 years she moved to Denmark, later came to America to become the bride of Nels Christensen on November 29, 1881.

The couple lived on a farm five miles southwest of Herman. After her husband’s death in 1896, Mrs. Christensen and her five children remained on the farm and continued its operation until 1913. Since her retirement from farming, Mrs. Christensen had lived in Blair.

Left to mourn her passing are five children, Charles of Blair, Albert of Little Falls, Minn., Mrs. Minnie Iverson of Blair, Morris of Herman, Louis of Parkston, S.D.; also 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
