Louella E. Christensen, 88, of Blair, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha. Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 7, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment was in the Blair Cemetery.

Louella Elvina (Suverkrubbe) Christensen was born Jan. 19, 1916, on a farm southwest of Fort Calhoun to Peter Gustav and Amanda (Rohn) Suverkrubbe.

She attended Greene Elementary School District No. 49 through 8th grade, then lived with an older sister while attending Technical High School in Omaha, where she graduated in 1932.

She attended Dana College and the University of Omaha (which later became the University of Nebraska-Omaha) and taught rural school at Maney, Bisbee and Nashville in Washington County, and Ponca School in Douglas County. She also worked part-time at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home from 1969 until 1972.

On Feb. 14, 1942, she married Tage Christensen in Buffalo, N. Y. They moved to the farm in 1946 after her husband’s return from the service in World War II. Following her husband’s death in September of 2000, Mrs. Christensen moved to Johansen Manor in August 2001.

She was baptized as an infant on Oct. 8, 1916, in Bennington, and was confirmed at Kountze Memorial Church in 1931. She became a member of First Lutheran Church in 1946. She was active in Church Circle and was a past president of the First Lutheran Church Women, member of the Martha Circle, past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, member of the Friendly Homemakers Club, and the W. D. Card Club.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Curt and Tami Christensen of Rock Springs, Wyo., Steven and Karen Christensen of Overland Park, Kan., Jeffrey and Linda Christensen of Blair; daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Joe Fryman of Blair; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Harriett and Morris Palle, Erma Suverkrubbe, and Robert Jahnel.

In addition to her husband, Tage, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald; four sisters, Teena Henderson, Anita Hansen, and infants, Alla and Henrietta; and five brothers, Henry, William, John, George, and Earl.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Association, or First Lutheran Church.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
