DEATH OF MRS. J. M. TROUTMAN

Sarah Elizabeth Ballard was born at Millersburg, Iowa, Oct. 23, 1850, and died at Chadron, Feb. 3, 1911 at the age of 60 years, 3 months and 11 days.

She was married to J. M. Troutman at Marengo, Iowa, Aug. 1, 1878. To this union five children were born, of whom three are living: one daughter, Mrs. Grace Hibbard of Sheridan county; and two sons, Martin and Preston, both of Chadron. Besides these children and her husband, she leaves one sister, Mrs. Wm. Connell of Whitney; two brothers, George Ballard of Chance, Mont., and John Ballard of Blair, Nebr; also one half-brother, Dell Ballard and two half-sisters, Hattie and Grace Ballard, all of Blair, Neb.

The Troutman family came to Nebraska in 1855 and settled at Whitney, where they lived until 1906 when they moved to Chadron, which has since been their home.

Mrs. Troutman united with the M. E. church while living at Whiney, but transferred her membership in March, 1908, to the Christian church in Chadron, where she was a faithful and enthusiastic member until she closed her eyes to awake in the presence of the King.

She was also an active worker in the order of Royal Neighbors. Her large acquaintance and kind and genial disposition won a host of friends whose sympathy goes out to Mr. Troutman and his family at this time of sorrow.

The funeral was held from the Christian church Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The M. E. Quartet furnished the music; Mr. Denton preached a short sermon; and the Royal Neighbors used their ritualistic service, after which the remains were taken to Greenwood cemetery to be laid to rest. ---- Chadron Chronicle
