Bessie J. Turner, 76, of Arlington, died Jan. 2, 2007, at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 8, at Fremont’s First Lutheran Church.

Bessie J. Turner was born to Lumir Prochaska and Henriette Houska on Sept. 7, 1931, in Purple Cane Township. She grew up in the North Bend area and graduated from North Bend High School in 1946.

Children were a great part of her life. She graduated from Midland College and taught country school by Rogers and Cedar Bluffs. She attended the recitals and programs of her children and grandchildren and made each child an important part of her life. She volunteered as Sunday School superintendent while her grandchildren were in the Sunday School program at First Lutheran Church.

She worked for many years at Adams Motor Company as a bookkeeper.

She was a loving wife and mother. She married Carl Richard Strong on May 26, 1950, in Raton, N. M. After his death in January 1976, in the Pathfinder Hotel explosion, she married Doug Turner on Nov. 14, 1987 in Fremont.

She was an active member of First Lutheran Church. She loved to travel and was able to see many sites in the United States and abroad. Her favorite places included Israel, Germany and the Czech Republic. Coming from a farm background, she loved to raise livestock, moving to an acreage near Arlington in 1990.

She is survived by her husband, Doug, of Arlington; children, Carl E. “Rick” and Sharon Strong; Dawn and Robert Barnes, all of Fremont; Hope and Roger Songster of Valley; Robin and Brad Fooken of Fremont; Gwen and Chris Hoover of Lee Summit, Mo.; and William and Melissa Turner of Byron, Ohio; 22 grandchildren and their families; seven great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dee and Eddie Hancock of Fremont, Janice and Ray Goosen of Bayard; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Trent.
