Mrs. Mary Nemetz Dies On Coast

Mrs. Mary Nemetz, better known to many Blair people as Mrs. Fred Nemetz, passed away at St. John’s hospital at Santa Monica, California early Sunday morning. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Mrs. Nemetz was first stricken Thanksgiving evening while visiting with some friends in Santa Monica. She was immediately hospitalized but did not rally to treatment. She would have been 68 years of age Tuesday of this week.

The deceased was born in King City, Missouri, November 30, 1886. Her parents were the late Frank and Sarah Bigelow who spent most of their life in Blair. She was married to Fred Nemetz in Blair in 1904.

Until the early 30’s the family lived in Blair where Mr. Nemetz operated a barber shop in the basement of the Mathiesen building.

She is survived by her husband, whose ill health prevented his accompanying the body to Blair for burial. Four sons and one daughter also survive. They are Clifford Nemetz, of Venice, California; Dewey Nemetz, of Blair; Mrs. Max Bain of Blair; Fred Nemetz, Jr. with the United States Navy on a destroyer in the Chinese waters and Donald Nemetz now in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A sister, Mrs. Ed Wolff, also lives in Blair.

Funeral services were held at the Congregational church in Blair Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Donald H. Scheuer conducting the services. Burial, under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home was made in the Blair Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Philip O’Hanlon, Louis Murdoch, Lester Nielsen, Clifton N. Robinson, Donald Jones and Karl Kolterman.
