Bill L. Neuman, 72

Bill L. Neuman, 72, of Omaha, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003.

Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Crosby-Swanson Colonial Chapel in Omaha, with interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; daughters and son-in-law, Carol Duncan, and Debra and Mark Robinson, all of Omaha; son and daughter-in-law, Bill D. and Wanda Neuman of Omaha; four grandchildren; brothers, John Neuman of Herman, Patrick Neuman of South Africa; sisters, June Butts and Donna Stewart, both of Omaha, and Mary Reyzlik of Blair; parents-in-law, Ernest and Hazel Andersen of Blair.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to Make a Wish Foundation and Messiah Lutheran Church.

Bill L. Neuman lived life at top speed. “He was always on the go,” his son, Bill D. Neuman, said.

But Bill L—known as Bill Sr.—experienced health problems as early as 1982, when he had open heart surgery, his son said.

He was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease between his heart and lungs a few years ago, his son said, and had been hospitalized four times since July.

He died in the hospital early Wednesday morning. He was 72.

Bill Sr. worked in his store, Neuman Equipment Co., which he opened in 1963 with his wife, Patricia, up until a couple of months ago, his son said.

“He was a salesman as much as anything, Bill Jr. said. “The only think that kept him from working right up to the end was when he just physically could not.” “He was all about…getting things done and moving ahead.”

The Fort Calhoun native enjoyed fishing, hunting and gambling, his son said. “He loved to play cards, Bill Jr. said, adding that his father’s favorite vacation spot was Las Vegas.

Bill Sr. also had a passion for morel mushroom hunting, his son said. He would spend weeks in the woods hunting for mushrooms with family and friends.

The Korean War veteran also served as potentate of the Tangier Shrine Temple in 1978 and was a 33rd-degree Mason, Bill Jr. said.

Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Crosby-Burkett-Swanson-Golden Colonial Chapel at 119th Street and West Center Road.

Services are at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Other survivors include daughters Carol Duncan and Debra Robinson of Omaha and four grandchildren.
