Esther Neumeyer Buried July 27

Esther Neumeyer was born in Omaha, Nebraska on March 9, 1902. She passed away July 24, 1976 while a patient at the Blair Memorial Hospital. She had attained the age of 74 years, 4 months, 15 days.

She received her elementary education in the school of District No. 27, in rural Douglas County. She graduated from Benson High School and attended Midland College in Fremont.

She became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Bennington, August 21, 1935 by transfer and she has continued there faithfully these 41 years.

On December 28, 1927, Esther was united in marriage to Hans Neumeyer. This couple spent almost their entire married life in Bennington. In addition to being a faithful and devoted wife and mother she shared her time joyfully and generously with her church, friends, school and community. She was active in the Women’s Missionary Society and the Lutheran Church Women. She served some 17 years on the Bennington School Board. Most of these years she was the secretary. She was a member of the Bennington Woman’s Club and in 1945 she was instrumental in helping organize the Junior Woman’s Club. She helped plant the trees and establish the park at the present site of the fire-barn. She was truly a working member of the PTA and was honored as a life-time member of that organization. She also attended the gatherings of the Keenagers of St. John’s and enjoyed being a part of the sewing group at the church.

She is survived by her husband, Hans, a daughter Geraldine-Mrs. Paul Pooley, of Bennington; 2 sons: Dale of Mobridge, South Dakota and Lowell of Bennington, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorial Services were held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington with Pastor Norman Schroeder officiating Tuesday, July 27. Casket Bearers were Melvin and Leland Bunz, Seymour Katz, Arthur Neuhaus, Bill Muller and Alvin Seltz. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Omaha. The Hadan-Golden Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
