Mabel M. Neumeyer, 98

Mabel M. Neumeyer, 98, who was the oldest current resident in Bennington, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington with the Rev, John Pierson officiating.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill at Elkhorn.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 15, 3-5 p.m. at Hadan Golden Reichmuth in Bennington.

Mabel M. Witte was born Sept. 17, 1900, to George and Minnie (Schuman) Witte. She was the sixth of nine children born in the family.

The family moved to Bennington from near Elkhorn in March of 1916 and had lived in the area since then.

On Nov. 23, 1921, she married Henry Neumeyer.

She was a homemaker and was interested in community affairs. She was a 4-H leader, extension club member and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

She was very definitely a fisherman. She would rather fish than eat. She kept busy crocheting and cooking, playing Bingo and cards.

Mabel moved to Ben-View in 1992.

She was survived by one son-in-law, retired Col. C.G. Dahl of San Diego, Calif.; one grandson, Lt. Col. Gary Dahl of San Diego; one granddaughter and her husband, Sandra and Capt. Chris Desmond of Slidell, La.; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; one daughter, Lois Mae Dahl, in 1996; four brothers, Bennie, Jesse, Eddie and Chester; and four sisters, Reva Riecken, Eva Otte, Viola Witte and Lydia Christensen.
