Robert Smith, 82

Robert R. Smith, 82, of Papillion and formerly of Beaver Lake and Fort Calhoun, died Friday, April 10, 1998, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun. Burial will be in the Forest Lawn Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Smith was born May 16, 1915, in Iowa to Vern and Elsie (Miller) Smith. He grew up in Winner, S.D.; attended Winner High School before attending Yankton College in Yankton, S.D. He was the South Dakota State Champion in the 440-yard sprint while at Yankton, College. He also attended business college in Sioux City. On Feb. 24, 1934, he married Lillian Florence Wentworth in Yankton. He operated the Yankton Radiator Co. in Yankton before moving to Omaha. He also built racing cars and built, refurbished and played the organ.

Survivors are his wife, Florence, of Papillion; grandsons, Todd Smith and Douglas Smith, both of Omaha; a brother-in-law and his wife, Darrell F. and Inola Wentworth, St. Cloud, Minn.; and nieces, Dorcas Dahlheim, Lincoln, and Delores Jensen, San Jose, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Vern; and daughter, Carol Ann.
