Services for Eugene Newell, 83 of Blair who died at Memorial Community Hospital December 8, 1994, were Saturday, December 10 at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery with military graveside services.

Eugene L. Newell was born September 24, 1911, at Monroe, Iowa to Earl and Georgia Lewis Newell. He attended school in Des Moines, Iowa.

On November 12, 1942 he entered the army, serving in World War II. He was discharged in 1946.

On May 23, 1943, he married Goldie Wilford, in Luck, Wyoming.

He owned and operated Gene and Goldie’s Tavern in Gilman, Iowa for many years. They moved to Blair in 1989.

He was a member of the Blair American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two great-grandchildren, Samantha Jobe and James Spahn and two sisters, Nell Blighton and Frances Page.

Surviving him in death is his wife, Goldie; a daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Robert Ball, Omaha, Nebraska; a daughter, Phyllis Utnage, Seattle, Washington; seven grandchildren, Patrick Miller, Terrie Deklavs, Valerie Utnage, Patty Kuhl, Melody Harlow, Michelle Brunnr and Melinda Montemayor, and 22 great-grandchildren.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
