PERRY NEWELL DIED LAST SATURDAY (Veteran)

Perry Newell, 37, son of Rev. and Mrs. A. F. Newell, formerly of Blair, passed away at the home of his parents in Kansas City, Kansas last Saturday. Mr. Newell was well known to Blair people, having resided here for ten years with his parents.

His death was attributed to a lung infection.

For two years he was in charge of all AAA government contracts with Washington County farmers. Later he graduated at the University of Nebraska in anthropology, and subsequently did effective work in his chosen line under the University of Nebraska and the University of Texas.

During the war he was for twenty months a radar man in a navy transport which landed troops on combat shores, including Okinawa. During this time he made three complete circuits of the Pacific area, was awarded three battle stars and received his discharge last December.

Following his discharge he, with his wife, spent the winter with his parents in Kansas City and was in good health until his sudden attack last April. Burial was made beside his older brother in Lincoln Memorial Park, Lincoln, Nebraska.
