Services for J. David Newell, 73, of Arlington who died March 16, 1991 at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County in Fremont were Wednesday, March 20 at Arlington Community Church. Rev. Don Cassiday officiated. Burial was in the Arlington Cemetery.

J. David Newell was born April 19, 1917 at Newcomerstown, Ohio. He grew up in Arlington and then moved to Chester, Nebraska where he graduated from high school. He lived at Wichita and Concordia, Kansas, Wahoo and York, Nebraska before returning to Arlington.

He had been a shipping clerk at Valmont Industries at Valley for 13 years until he became disabled in 1976. Before going to work at Valmont, he was a truck driver for 17 years. He worked at Ed Masters Service Station in Fremont and at Marshall Nurseries in Arlington.

He was a member of the Arlington Community Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles at Fremont and was an avid gardener. He also enjoyed camping and fishing.

He married Aletha Fraley at Beatrice, Nebraska September 10, 1949. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jones and Lavina Ricke Newell and one sister.

In addition to his wife, other survivors include two daughters, Sandra (Mrs. Bill) Witt of Stephens City, Virginia and Lauri Newell of Omaha; a sister, Bessie Lase of Gilroy, California and two grandsons, Billy Witt and Tommy Witt.

Pallbearers were Duane Fraley, August Lallman, Joe Kafka, Milton Wilcox, Willis Munn and Bob Barnes.

Ruby House was organist. Melvin Misfeldt was soloist.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington was in charge of arrangements.
