Edward A. Newkirk, 82

Edward A. (Bill) Newkirk, 82, of Fremont, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 1988, at the Dodge County Memorial Hospital in Fremont.

Edward was born on Sept. 9, 1906, at Arlington to A. Boone and Frances (Barton) Newkirk. He married Iris Rodel on Aug. 24, 1932 at Arlington. He and Iris farmed north of Arlington until his retirement in 1982 at which time the couple moved to Fremont.

Mr. Newkirk was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Orum and a 50 year member of Hiram Masonic Lodge in Arlington.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a twin sister, Edna Andersen; a brother, Vernon; and a grandson Kendall Knudsen.

He is survived by his wife Iris; two daughters and sons-in-law, Eleanor (Mrs. Robert) Wulf of Blair, Mrs. Linda ElRoy Heggemeyer of Fremont; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Merle Newkirk, and one sister, Mary Anderson, both of Fremont.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 9, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Graveside services were held in the Arlington Cemetery with the Rev. Norman Lillegard officiating.

BLAIR – Retired farmer Edward A. “Bill” Newkirk, 82, Fremont, formerly of Arlington, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 1988, at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County.

He was born Sept. 9, 1906 at Arlington. He farmed north of Arlington until 1982, when he retired and moved to Fremont. He was a member of the Arlington Masonic Lodge.

He married Iris Rodel Aug. 24, 1932, at Arlington. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Eleanor (Mrs. Robert) Wulf of Blair and Linda (Mrs. Elroy) Heggemeyer of Fremont; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Merle, and a sister, Mary Anderson, both of Fremont.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at First Lutheran Church, Blair. The Rev. Norman Lillegard will officiate. Burial will be at the Arlington Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at Campbell Funeral Home, Blair. Prayer and Masonic services will be 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Orum.
