Rites Held Sunday For Mrs. A. B. Newkirk, 65

Large Attendance at Funeral Rites is Mark of Respect

Funeral services for Mrs. A. B. Newkirk, who died at the farm home north of Arlington last Thursday evening, August 5th, were held in the Congregational Church at Arlington last Sunday afternoon with Rev. H. C. Van Valkenburgh officiating. This service following a short service at the home.

Nearly 600 persons gather to pay their last respects, and the church and yard nearby were filled. A loud speaker was installed so that those unable to get into the church could hear the services.

Mrs. Newkirk, as Frances Barton was born at Edgewood, Ill., on June 16th, 1871, and came to Nebraska in 1877. She was married to A. B. Newkirk on February 14th, 1894, and to this union five children were born, on son, Vernon, having preceded his mother in death 15 years ago.

A quartette composed of Mrs. Howard Marshall, Mrs. Leonard Wulf, Sterling and Wayne Plugge sang her favorite songs, “Beautiful Isle of somewhere,” “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder,” and “Is My Name Written There.”

The rostrum was banked with a great number of lovely floral tributes. Pallbearers were Andrew Johansen, Simon Gnuse, Frank Rahlfs, LeRoy Bisbee, Chris Hansen and Fred Dickmeyer.

Interment was made in the Arlington cemetery with the Bendorf Funeral Home Service in charge.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Merle and Edward, both of this vicinity; two daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Anderson and Miss Edna, both of Omaha; three brothers, Solomon Barton, of Arlington; Elmer and Lester, both of Blair; four sisters, Mrs. Joseph Pixley, of Ainsworth; Miss Anna Barton, Mrs. Sam McCown, and Mrs. Nels Nelson, all of Blair; and five grandchildren.
