Services for Sam J Smith, Jr., of Tekamah who died at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair November 4, 1991 will be 10 am, Thursday, November 7 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Burial will be in Blair Cemetery.

Sam J. Smith, Jr. was born December 17, 1921 in Omaha, Nebraska to Samuel and Mary O’Neill Smith. He attended Creighton Prep High School and Creighton University.

He served in the Air Force during World War II. He was a past commander of the Fort Calhoun American Legion.

He retired from the postal service in January, 1982, having worked in the Omaha office.

He married Madelyn Martin in Omaha February 23, 1952.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Thomas, and one grandson, Daniel.

He is survived by his wife, Madelyn; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Andrew Marquardt of Tekamah, Janet and Gerald Petersen of Onawa, Iowa and Jennifer and James Peterson of Mesa, Arizona; one son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Ann Smith, III of Tekamah; eight grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Alta Smith, Chapell, Nebraska; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Francis Ryan, Onida, South Dakota and a sister-in-law, Cecelia Smith, Omaha.
