Robert Newkirk

Robert L. Newkirk, Fremont, died February 6, 1987, of cancer at his home. He was 56.

Newkirk was an accountant and bookkeeper, and did Income Tax service.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at the Fremont Alliance Church. Rev. Eddie Masters and Rev. Irving Malm will officiate.

Organist will be Mrs. JoAnn Masters, and a quartet comprised of Harold Ehly; Dave Larsen; Wayne Dykeman, and Paul Van Behren, will sing. Pianist will be Mrs. Norma Dorsett.

Pallbearers will be Randy Brand; Rick LeGrande; Lyle Nelson; John Weir; Bill Wax, and John Fiene.

Honorary pallbearers will be Loren Rogers; Laddie Lodl; Wayne Dykeman; Ray Ruwe; David and Don Rasmussen; Melvin Gieselmann; Robert Monke; E.L. Bartlett; Harold Ehly; Donald Gilmore; Gary Hansen; Robert Johnson; Richard Larsen and James Siebken.

Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

He was born April 4, 1930, in rural Arlington.

He graduated from Blair High School in 1947, and attended the University of Nebraska.

After his marriage to Mary Alice Marshall on June 22, 1951, in Arlington, they lived on a farm north of Arlington for one year prior to entering the service. He served for two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was stationed in Korea.

After the service, he farmed until 1957, when he got polio and was hospitalized for 16 months. After that, they moved to Fremont in 1958.

Newkirk was a member of the Fremont Alliance Church, and was a church elder for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife Mary Alice; son James R. Newkirk of Arlington, and daughter Mrs. Greg (Diana) Larsen of Loveland, Colorado; father Merle Newkirk of Fremont; sisters Mrs. Ted (Mary Kay) Dimmitt of Fremont, and Mrs. Darrell (Frances) Miller of Blair, and four grandchildren.

Moser Memorial Chapel of Fremont is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the Fremont Alliance Church of to the Nebraska Polio Survivors Association.
