Services Held For May Nichols

Services were Wednesday, January 4, at Swanson Funeral Home in Valley for May Ethel Nichols, 96, who died December 31, 1983, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home.

May Nichols was born June 13, 1887, in Kirwin, Kansas, to Clate Bradford and Millie Wilde Nichols. In 1889, the family moved to a farm south of Waterloo and from there to a farm south of Valley at the “Lone Tree” corner in 1896.

She moved into Valley with her family some years later when her father became postmaster. Starting in 1916, she served in the Valley Post Office, first as a clerk; then as assistant post-master and finally as postmaster. She retired in 1948 and soon after moved into the O.E.A. Manor in Omaha, where she lived until 1981 when she entered Valhaven Colonial Manor.

She was a charter member of the Valley Baptist-Presbyterian Church. She had also belonged to the Valley Presbyterian Church, where she played the piano for services for many years. She was a long time member of Victory Chapter, O.E.S.

She is survived by a niece, Betty (Mrs. Alton) Larsen of Blair.

Swanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
