Ronald L. Jones, 75, of Fort Calhoun died Saturday, Oct.18, 2014,after a courageous struggle with MDS. The service is Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church. Interment will be private. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun.

Ronald L. Jones was born July 1, 1939, to Herbert L. and Margy L. Jones.

He graduated in 1956 from Blair High School, during which time he was an FFA member (or as his dad would say, “It stands for father farms alone.”) Ron spent his early working years as a boilermaker for Local 83 and retired after working many years as an employee of Omaha Public Power District at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant.

Ron had also been a volunteer firefighter and served as secretary for the Fort Calhoun Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a member of the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church.

He was affectionately known as “Smokey.”

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marilyn Jones; and children: Robin (Tom) Breedlove, Roxanne (Mike) Grandgenett of Omaha, and Ross (Karen) Jones of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren: Randi, Cory, and Jared Grandgenett, Aidan and Nolen Breedlove, and Nicholas, Samuel, Matthew, Luke, Simon and Gemma Jones, who enjoyed grandpa’s sense of humor, his golf cart rides, and shared passion for the great outdoors.

A kind and generous man, Ron will be missed by family, friends and former co-workers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert L. and Margy L. Jones; and brother Herbert L. Jones Jr.

Memorials are suggested to the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church Building Fund or Fort Calhoun Fire and Rescue.
