Born on June 25, 1932 to Richard and Pauline (Leisure) Mathias in Van Wert, Ohio. Dick passed away at Brookstone Village in Omaha, NE on June 23, 2014, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Preceded in death by parents. Survived by his wife of 44 years, Joan (Dingwerth); daughters, Nicole (Mark) Panneton and Renee (Mike) Keene; brother, David (Roberta) Mathias; grandchildren, Cooper, Ava and Derek Panneton and Lindsey (Panneton) Blair; step-mom, Dolores Mathias. Dick graduated from Ohio University in 1956. Following a year playing semi-pro baseball, he spent 13 years in the Air Force on a flight crew and as an intelligence officer. He then spent nearly 30 years with the Creighton Cardiac Center, retiring in 2000. Besides his family, he loved woodworking, his beloved Yankee baseball team and helping others. He spent over 20 years volunteering with the Millard Athletic Association, several years as chairman.

Family will direct Memorials.

Funeral Mass Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 10am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 7790 South 192nd Street in Omaha, NE. Visitation Wednesday from 5-7pm with a 7pm Vigil Service at Roeder Mortuary, 11710 Standing Stone Drive, Gretna, NE. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Gretna with military honors by Gretna American Legion and VFW.
