Mrs. Niels H. Hansen Dies At 86 Years

Death came to Mrs. Neils H. Hansen Tuesday noon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Beernstrup of West street of Blair.

Deceased was born in Denmark on Jan. 9, 1857 and was thus 86 years of age at her death. She came to this country in 1880 settling at Marshalltown, Iowa and here she was married and the young couple made Marshalltown their home for five years when they moved to Chadron, Nebraska.

They resided in Chadron but a few months and then came to Blair and later moved to a farm south of Kennard where they resided until twelve years ago when they retired and moved to Blair.

The husband died in 1931. Six children survive, Albert B. Hansen, Christian B. Hansen, and Mrs. William Beernstrup of Blair; Mrs. Francis Dolan, Arlington; Mrs. Peter H. Smith, Stanton, Michigan, and Mrs. George Fisher of Los Angeles, California.

Beside these there are 23 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Also a brother in New Zealand and another in Minnesota. All feel their loss deeply.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. from the First Lutheran Church of which she was a member with Rev. H. C. Jorgensen officiating and interment under the supervision of Chris K. Bendorf will be made in the Blair cemetery.

SERVICES AT FIRST LUTHERAN SATURDAY FOR MRS. NELS HANSEN

Mrs. Nels Hansen, 86

Mrs. Nels Hansen, 86, who has made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Beernstrup, since her husband’s death in 1933, died Tuesday at the Beernstrup home, 58 south West street.

Funeral services, in charge of Bendorf Funeral Home, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church. The Rev. H. C. Jorgensen will officiate, burial to follow in Blair Cemetery.

Johanna Hansen was born January 9, 1857, in Denmark, and came to the United States in the early 80’s. A short time later she and Mr. Hansen were married at Marshalltown, Iowa, and farmed there for five years. Then they homesteaded at Chadron, Nebraska, a year before moving to a farm near Blair, where they remained until retiring and moving into Blair in 1912,

One daughter, Mrs. Hans Nelson, preceded the mother in death. Surviving are two sons, Chris B. and Albert B. Hansen, both of Orum; and four daughters, Mrs. Mary Smith of Stanton, Michigan, Mrs. Francis Dolan of Arlington, Mrs. Beernstrup of Blair and Mrs. Bertha Lischer of Los Angeles. Mrs. Lischer has been here the past two weeks caring for her mother.

Other survivors include a brother, Henry, at Arco, Minnesota, and a brother in New Zealand; 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Six of the grandchildren are now serving either in the army of navy.
