Helen Marie Carey, 88

Helen Marie Carey died peacefully at her home Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, in Blair.

The family is planning a private service at the West Center Chapel of Heaffey-Heaffey-Hoffman-Dworak and Cutler in Omaha. Interment will be in the Bohemian Cemetery in Omaha.

Helen was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Omaha, the younger of two children of William and Anna Janota McCarthy. She grew up in Omaha’s Gibson neighborhood and attended South High School.

Helen was a resident of Blair for nearly 50 years. Her family and friend will remember Helen as an endearing person who had a strong will, laughed easily and had a lifelong love of cats and old movies.

She is survived by two sons: Ron Dughman of Beaverton, Ore., and Patrick Shane Carey of Concord, Mass.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her older brother, George McCarthy, as well as her first husband, Gene Dale Dughman; her second husband, James Oscar Carey; and a son, Shawn James Carey.
